Making You Safer with a 

Synagogue Air Filtration System

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently issued school guidelines for in-person classes that included upgrading ventilation systems to provide a safe environment for students, teachers and staff.

 

That’s exactly what we’ve done at Agudath IsraelΨEtz Ahayem for our joint Sunday school classes
 

with Temple Beth Or. Although classes are not currently in-person, we are ready when we have the go ahead to resume students and teachers coming to the synagogue. The iWave air purifiers installed in mid-February kill viruses and bacteria. And Covid-19.

 

Those iWave air purifiers have been installed on both sides of the Sunday school building. Additional air purifiers have been installed for The Jewish Federation of Central Alabama offices.

 

“The simple reason we did this is we want them (teachers and students) to feel as safe as they possibly can to come into our synagogue and not have to worry about viruses and bacteria,” said Dickie Blondheim, vice president of fundraising for AIEA.

 

Of course, we want a safe environment for all our congregants and that’s why iWave air purifiers have been installed for the Aronov Chapel (the smaller chapel), library, all offices and bathrooms.

 

After a thorough review of the effectiveness of the air purifiers, three will be added in the fall for the large sanctuary, kitchen, foyer and social hall.

 

And the estimated $6,500 for the air purifiers and installation was donated.

 

“We know this is not 100 percent perfect, but we are doing whatever we can do to protect (congregants and guests),” Blondheim said

It is close to 100 percent protection, according to Dennis Tillery, owner of Montgomery-based Tillery Heating & Air Conditioning, which installed the iWave air purifiers at AIEA. He said that a test showed the product had a 99.4 percent reduction rate against Covid- 19. “I’d say that’s pretty strong,” Tillery said.

 

Four of the installed air purifiers were the iWave R models that treat up to six tons of air and one C model that treats up to 12 tons of air. The R model has been installed in 200,000-plus applications, according to the company’s website.

 

“It has the ability to reduce allergens and eliminates what we call in the industry ‘dirty-sock syndrome’ because of that stale smell,” he said. “It can actually control cooking odors as well.” No more worrying about a special recipe that creates or may create an overpowering odor throughout the building.

 

The air purifiers even reduce smoke, static electricity and other airborne particles, according to the iWave website.

 

The air purifier uses bi-polar ionization, “which splits the molecules down to gases,” Tillery said. The air flow from the ventilation system flows through the iWave air purifier, which cleans the air.

 

It’s another tool to make us all safer – social distancing, facemasks, vaccinations and ventilation systems that kill viruses, bacteria and mold – and shorten the time when we can come back and attend services and events in person.
